20. WILLIAM EDWARD (Ted) EDGE was born on 5 May 1861 in 2 Islington Square, Salford, Lancashshire. He was a Mechanic (Artillery) in 1881. He was an Engine Fitter in 1899 in Charlton, Kent. He was an Examiner of Ordnance Royal Arsenal in 1925 in Woolwich, London. He died in South Shoebury. Have birth certificate

1871 Census at 5 Islington Square, Salford age 9 scholar

Wedding certificate July 23 1892 his address Abbey Street Bermondsy,
bachelor, an engineer, age 31. Witnessed by Bessie Bagot-Worrall,
Henry Wheatley and Ellen Edge (his mother)

They lived in Brighton for a time Bill remembers visiting there
Also Muswell Hill near Alexandra Palace

He was married to MAGGIE WORRALL (daughter of JOHN STRINGER WORRALL and MARY (POLLY) COTTAM) on 23 Jul 1892. MAGGIE WORRALL was born on 1 Jun 1861 in 31 Sydney Street, Chorlton-upon-Melock, Manchester, Lancashire. She was baptised on 22 Oct 1861 in Manchester Cathedral. She died on 5 Nov 1930. Maggie Worrall Taught at Highbury. She taught Peggy Knee. She also
taught P.C.Wren.
The Worralls lived in Highbury and Holloway (Peggy Knee) obtained by
Bill Edge on visit to Weston Super Mare July 1994)

Died about 1934-1935 in Montpellier St. Hove of cancer (Bill Edge
1994) - this is in contrast to my date (source unknown but probably
from Stan Edge)

From her wedding certificate she was living at 21 Chatterton Road,
Highbury, described as a spinster and age 31.

Was a good cricketer. WILLIAM EDWARD (Ted) EDGE and MAGGIE WORRALL had the following children:

Birth Registered in the sub-district of Tottenham No 43 of the register book on the 27 May 1893.

Was killed in the first world war at Etaples and was buried at Abbeville - a very large cemetery. Stan Edge visited it twice - he idolised his bigger brother - He took Jean Beveridge once and they visited Paris at the same time. This was before they were married.

child24 iii. LESLIE EDGE was born about 1897 in Charlton, Kent. (5) Les suffered shell shock from the first World War. He was best man at Stan and Jean's weddiing. Was mentally ill and in a hospital in WWII. He was released from the hospital and a telegram was sent to Stan Edge to collect him. Unfortunately the family were on holiday down in Devon and missed Les. He called on Auntie Besssie Beveridge left there and was never contacted the family again. Stan Edge tried to find him but was unsuccessful. Could have killed in the Blitz.
